Obesity, depression, reflux disease, etc were known risk factors associated with osteoarthritis. However, according to the research presented at Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI 2022) Conference more than 40 new conditions were positively linked to OA diagnosis. Anne Kamps, an MD and Ph.D. student at Erasmus University Medical Centre briefed on the association between Liver cirrhosis, sinusitis, allergy, and migraine.

While Kamp’s work evaluated the rate of comorbidities before the diagnosis of Osteoarthritis, Dell’isola’s research shed light on the occurrence of similar comorbidities after the diagnosis of osteoarthritis. Dell’isola, a postdoctoral researcher at Lund University explained that all the treatment methods are tailored to treat a single disease. However, more than 70% of the affected population have other conditions along with the joint disease. He concluded that there is a link between factors that make people frail and vulnerable to other comorbidities.

He explained that certain factors actors increase the risk of diagnosis but exercise, and lifestyle changes in earlier stages of life can delay or prevent the onset of the disease.
